King Ahab and Jezabel: Evil King and Queen of Israel. Jezabel caused Ahab to fall into the worship of idols.
meaning: All of the websites just said who they were but this is what i could gather: Jezabel: brazen or forward woman who causes the downfall spiritually or morally of something or someone. Ahab: one who sucumbs to temptation or who is mislead---- HELP MRS> MOON??

Manna: sustaining food for people who followed Moses to the Promise Land of Cannan.
Meaning: sustaining life giving source

Solomon: Song of King David; Said to be the wisest person in the Bible
MEaning: extremely wise; full of wisdom

David and Bathsheba- king david had an affair with bathsheba and she became pregnant and after this event his rule as king diminished under him
def: a huge sin

Eye of the needle- jesus said "it would be easier for a camel to go through the eye of the needle than a rich man to get into heaven,
def: very difficult task

Prodigal son- Father with two sons splits his estates and the younger son goes off and waist his while the other stays and helps his father. the younger son comes back and is forgiven.
def: wasteful son who is dissapointing

GOOD SAMARITAN:
origin-after the Samaritan passerby in the New Testament parable who was the only person to aid a man who had been beaten and robbed (Luke 10:30-37)
definition-a compassionate person who unselfishly helps others

HANDWRITING ON THE WALL:
origin-originates in the Biblical book of Daniel where supernatural writing fortells the demise of the Babylonian Empire
definition-an expression which suggests a portent of doom or misfortune

SCAPEGOAT:
origin-a goat that was driven off into the wilderness as part of the ceremonies of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, in Judaism during the times of the Temple in Jerusalem. The rite is described in Leviticus 16.
definition- widely used as a metaphor, referring to someone who is blamed for misfortunes

DEFINITION: one who suffers a great deal but remains faithful

ORIGIN: from an Old Testament character whose faith in God was tested by Satan; though he lost his family and belongings, he remained patient and faithful

DEFINITION: messed up family life? manipulative of others? I'm not sure which, sorry guys.

ORIGIN: grandson of Abraham, son of Isaac and Rebekah, brother of Esau, and the traditional ancestor of Israelites. His name was changed to Israel, and his 12 sons became the 12 Tribes of Israel.

DEFINITION: a type of tomb or burial chamber.

ORIGIN: first mentioned as having been purchased by Abraham for Sarah from Ephron the Hittite (Gen. 23:20). This was the "cave of the field of Machpelah", where Abraham and Rebekah and Jacob and Leah were also buried (79:29-32).

JOB'S COMPHERTORS-

origin- book of JOB, Job consistently asserts his faith despite the laments of his comforters. While one of the comforters gives up, and the others try to get him medical treatment, Job insists his faith is true, and eventually the voice of God tells the comforters to stop their behavior. When most of the comforters choose to listen to God's voice, they decide to taunt the one remaining individual who still laments Job's fate.

definition-A person who tries to console or help someone and not only fails but ends up making the other feel worse.

JUDAS-

origin- Judas was one of Jesus' 12 disciples. he sold him out for a small amount of money, leading to his crucifixion and ultimate death.

Definition: One who betrays another under guise of friendship

Sodom and Gomorrah-

ORIGIN: book of Genesis
SHORT VERSION: A Town so corrupt and evil that God Destroyed it.
LONG VERSION: a bunch of men from the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah tried to gang rape 2 angels- homosexual style. and so god rained fire and brimstone down and destroyed the two cities. showing how he feels about sin, and gay sexual sin in general

DEFINITION- cities destroyed (by fire) for wicked ways

Filthy Lucre: money or profits; from a story in the NT of Jesus casting moneylenders out of the Temple

Goliath: Goliath: Goliath was a giant warrior—more than nine feet tall—who was slain by David in I Samuel. In modern usage, both giants and very large or powerful people or things are called goliaths.

Samson and Delilah: Treacherous love story. Samson, an Israelite hero and legendary warrior with extraordinary physical strength, fell in love with Delilah, a Philistine. When Delilah learned that Samson's hair was the source of his strength, she betrayed him by excepting a Philistine bribe to cut off his hair while he slept. Today the name Delilah is associated with a voluptuous, treacherous woman.
