Imma Write a Book

Alright, I've just decided that I'm gonna write a book about the inner feelings and thoughts that guys have. For real. Cuz in Hamlet and Macbeth, it wasn't about their inner thoughts and feelings about being a man, it was about them contemplating issues and problems that actually matter. They weren't just whining the whole time about being princes and what was "expected" of them. And in the end, they both went out guns-a-blazin. Not Edna. What does she do? She thinks, and ponders, and goes nutso crazy cuz the guy she wants to have an affair with leaves her. You know how it should have ended? Besides the Orcs and Dragons? Leonce should have taken her into the Bayou, and fed her to some alligators. Given her something real to complain about for once. Word.

ending

so i acctually like the ending i think its kinda fitting to the tone of the whole book. she would never be satisfied with anything or anyone so she...

im satisfied with that conclusion idk how else they could have ended it.

Ending of the Awakening...

SNOW!

Yay! Finally snow in Wilmington!!

To Julian...

Happy President's Day Long Weekend

OK, here's what we have going on:

1. Read through Chapter 24 in The Awakening

2. Be on the lookout for your mandatory blog post on our novel

Wow! Is that all? I'm letting you guys off too easily!

We will be in the lab on Tuesday for finishing touches to your projects. Then, hopefully, we will start presenting on Wednesday!

Thursday, February 11, 2010

"The Awakening" is a bad title.

So when I read this book, I fall asleep. So why is it called The Awakening then if when somebody reads it, they fall asleep? Doesn't make any sense. Don't we have a literary term for that? Like "worstbookevar"? I think the "t" is silent.

Update

For tomorrow:

AP Words quiz! This thing is a whopper! Or, to use litotes, this quiz isn't a tiny little lamb at all!

Back in the lab for 40 minutes

Discussing The Awakening chapters 1-12

More on tone...another poem. (Sarah, aren't you happy?!?)

Helen Keller Quote

Hey guys, I was thinking about how today in class yall were making fun of Helen Keller, and I didn't think that was cool. I mean, I know I say inappropriate stuff sometimes, and I get chastised and berated and verbally abused for it, but cmon. To prove how intelligent and well educated she was despite her disabilities, I looked up some other Helen Keller quotes that I think really capture her character and her preservering spirit...

We have a lot going on!

Good class today! Here is what we have going on:

1. AP Words study material due tomorrow

2. Finish tone worksheet on the Emily Dickinson poem

3. Read chapters 1-5 of The Awakening

4. Continue working on MWDS

Is that it? (Like that's not a ton of stuff!)

Have a great night!

Go Heels!

Lauren...

I expect a name tomorrow!

Good job today!

Good job getting through timed write #2. Hopefully, I'll have those for you by Thursday.

No specific homework tonight--but you could be working on your AP Words flash cards (or whatever you use), on The Metamorphosis MWDS, or you could begin reading The Awakening (just to get ahead if you are so inclined).

Tomorrow we will watch a Power Point, talk about diction and tone, and play another AP Words game!

For tomorrow

Hi! For tomorrow:

We will finish up with the Metamorphosis! Sorry we didn't get to that today, but I thought we were having a good discussion about writing, so I let it go. We are having a mini-Socratic seminar.

Don't forget to bring either your independent read or How to Read Literature like a Professor. You will get reading time!

Say a positive mantra in your head about tomorrow's timed write before you go to sleep tonight. Let's see what positive thinking can do. Be serious, pick a mantra that is attainable (not "I will get a 9, I will get a 9" but something more realistic like "I will write with coherence" or something), and maybe you will be more at ease tomorrow during the timed write.

Mandatory homework for tonight

In addition to reading The Metamorphosis (finish Chapter 2), I want you to complete one more assignment. I am taking it for a grade tomorrow. I know some people in class do not check the blog, so I guess that's their problem.

Read this article:

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=123289019

And I want you to come in with your 6 word story about you/your life. I'll have one, too.

To make your life a bit easier, you don't have to complete the Metamorphosis worksheet. We'll do it tomorrow in class. But, write down your story so you can hand it in tomorrow.

Good luck!

picture day?

soooo, about this Picture Day Mrs. Moon.... ???

Have you

memorized the first line to The Metamorphosis yet?

GIANT JAPANESE POISONOUS DANGEROUS CENTIPEDE

Alrighty, this link leads to a video that shows a Mukade, a giant centipede. These things were like 6 inches long (the big ones) and would get into houses and stuff. They were all over the place. They were really poisonous too. Could kill a small child. My sister was born in Japan, where I used to live, so we really freaked out whenever we found one, which was probably like once a month.

A few things...

1. Picture day tomorrow!

2. Andrew, I just found out what was written as the word of the day yesterday. When I got here this morning it said, "Dragon: a mythological creature who captures princesses and breathes hella fire." So, I thought that's what you wrote (even though it wasn't exactly your handwriting).

THEN I found out that when my 3rd block got into class yesterday, the board read, "Drag-on: what this class does." Thanks.

3. Don't forget to read half of page 21 for tomorrow.
