I found a patient to shaddow!

Im meeting with her wednesday at the hospital during her treatment.
Im really excited an a little nervous..
I was wondering if you had any suggestions of what i should ask questions on.
I am planning to ask her what her emotions are while her treatment goes on and how it affects her life.
should i ask anything else?

Random stuff

I just wanted to say Good Job to each of your for your wonderful speeches in Graduation Project! You all really took watching yourselves on video to heart and the final speeches were much better than the practice ones!

Don't forget to write your thank-you card to the person you interviewed. If you have any questions, ask me via the blog. You need to either hand deliver it or mail it. (Get a stamp from your folks or bring me the $ and I'll get one for you). Remember to make a copy of the card! It goes in your portfolio!

Good luck writing your Shakespearean Sonnet over the weekend! I can't wait to hear them!

Have a nice, relaxing break and come back ready to read some Anglo-Saxon literature! Yes!

Remember to email me if you want your paper or final 9 weeks grade!

Multiple Voting

We only have 10 people in our class...how did we end up with 13 votes about RHPS?

andrew, why did i just now notice

that your picture is so accurate

My Outfit

OMG I am going to look soooo cute tomorrow!! Julian just don't wear a blue tie, white shirt, black pants, and frilly panties tomorrow, cuz that's what I'm wearing.

Hee hee

Check out these actual answers from high school tests (not from Laney, though)

RHPS

Hope you all enjoyed the movie today!

Good job to all who gave their speeches today, and practice, practice to those of you who go tomorrow!

Chill Pills!!!

We need to invest money into some chill pills. Or some nice warm hot cocoa, or some pita chips with hummus (spell check?) :)

SORRY!

OK, I was not asleep! I was in Brunswick County listening to a speaker with my husband and a friend. Sorry.

I will answer all questions in the comments section of each.

May, thanks for the beautiful picture!

For tomorrow: dress up, typed speech transcript, half sheet with signatures (yes, I will be one), your visual, and note cards!

Practice, practice, practice.

Good luck! You all will be fine! Get some rest and eat breakfast tomorrow morning!

MRS. MOON WAKE UP AND ANSWER OUR QUESTIONSSSSSSSSSSSS.

Waaaaah where are you?

speech.....

Mrs. Moon,
Ever since class today, you have me very worried. There is no way that I can only look at my notecards three times tomorrow. I need them to make sure that I stay on track. However, I am worried that it will be a significant amount of points off if I use them as a guide like last time. How many points will be off??? All i have to say is that Obama cant make a speech without a teleprompter, so we should be able to use our notecards if it too looks presentable........ NO DIG intended. Im just simply stating that, like Obama, who has much more public speaking background, ( or does he), I need the guidance of my notecards.... and only three glances could be detrimental for my speech...........

THOUGHTS????? How much will it be counted off???
Also, I was just clarifying that I could use you as a person to whom I practiced my speech with from last week right?? Will you sign it tomorrow?

Mrs. Moon I'm freaking out.

You told me I needed more specific details so I added them and when I practiced my speech with Mrs. Keller, it was four seconds shy of seven minutes! I'm trying to cut out as much as possible, but I don't want to lack details. And when I cut more, my paragraphs look silly, cause they're like two sentences. Gahhhh I need to be practicing and I'm still writing my transcript. Hjsigbkrjgbskjg.

Speech transcript!!

Is it MLA format? Double spaced one inch margins and all that good stuff?

:)

And just thought I'd share this pretty picture taking with fisheye lens that I found on Photobucket. :)

Dearest Julian

Why are your curly locks so red? They shine atop your large head like a crown, giving you an aura of magnificent majesticnesss.

dearest Andrew

how are your muscles so big? they bulge from your manly body like a stoic Greek god

Grading Papers...

More papers graded...more good grades!

They won't be all finished by tomorrow, but probably Wednesday. I know you all are chomping at the bit, but each paper takes me around 45 minutes to grade! Have patience with your old English teacher! :)

Reflection content?

Mrs. Moon can I not talk about how my paper was late? Haha. I mean I can if necessary but I'd prefer a more positive facade to be displayed if possible.

Wednesday, October 21, 2009

Do we directly quote our paper in our speech?

Like I know we're summarizing but, I guess my main question is when we type up our speech, do we have to source anything we said in it?

So I know this is kind of a stupid question but

What is supposed to be in the speech? Like are we supposed to cover all the points or just a certain point?

End Fat Talk and other stuff...

So, this week is National End Fat Talk week. Check out the video link below:

http://www.endfattalk.org/

For tomorrow, please have all of your homework completed. You will be missing out on a great discussion and won't get participation points. Please have your Frankenstein questions either typed (with space in between) or NEATLY written (also with space in between).

Be ready to discuss human cloning...I can't wait to hear your opinions and references to the article!

We will be reviewing for our Frankenstein test tomorrow, too. Please bring any questions/issues/concerns you have about the text. We'll play a fun game, too! We are not having a quote test. I dedided on a traditional test (as I have research papers to grade).

Tomorrow will also include an advisor log and product log check. Sorry we ran out of time today.

I will also give you time (hopefully) to work on your mid-term speech. Remember that Julian, Sarah, Madison, Kathryn, and Melanie present Wednesday. If you are not prepared, you will receive a 0 and will have to reschedule and will be in big trouble! We will also sign up for times for you to come in and watch your video with me.

Two 100s on the vocab quiz today. Any guesses who they are?

Have a great night!

Yesssss, another all-nighter.

win.

Retardedest Sonnet Ever (Really)

I am definitley not cut out for this poetry stuff. To get enough rhymes and stuff, my sonnet is now about a teacher dragon. Named Moon. I have to admit, it is pretty friggin good though. Shakespeare and that Byysshe guy would be proud.....

For Friday 10/16

I am so proud of you for handing in your papers!!!

Remember that tomorrow is blue and gold day (and class picture day) so make sure you are dressed up!

Your sonnets are also due tomorrow. Good luck future Shakespeares!

HOW TO CITE AN INTERVIEW

HALP GUISE! GO!

TOMORROW!

Can you believe the day for your papers is already here?!? For tomorrow:
  • Meet me in the library before 8:30! I will be at Laney around 7:45.
  • Bring your manila envelope with your rubric, check list, and paper (including formal outline and Works Cited) inside.
  • Also included are the following: note cards (in order), source cards, & printed Internet sources.

Remember, you can not print in my room tomorrow morning, nor can you access my classroom at all!

I will be checking the blog until about 10:00 tonight. Ask me anything and help each other out!

Here is the link to an online MLA style guide:

http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/01/

I wonder how late the latest post will be tonight... (Last year the winner was Kory R. with a posting at 1:50 am. Hopefully, you all will be sleeping peacefully at that time).

Good luck!

Check it out

Did you know that there is a blog devoted to Frankenstein?

Further Senior Project Questions......

If I am including examples in my paper of specific companies such as Wal-Mart, Giant Eagle, and Kroger, do I have to record them in a certain way? Like do I have to put them in italics or underline them? Initially, I though no, but I tend to second guess myself a lot...

Just wanted to check!

question

Hey i have a question. I forgot how to document for an image...... want to help me out?

word choice...

can anyone think of a better word for venture in this sentance it seems to positive of a word to talk about cancer...

The patient starts his/her venture with chemotherapy, nausea, chronic pain, and emotional stress as an everyday occurrence.

For October 12

Wow! So much to do, so little time...

1. Finish Frankenstein. We will have our test on October 21.

2. Meet with your advisor this week.

3. Bring in your outline/Works Cited tomorrow if you want me to look at it.

Remember that tomorrow is basically your last day to work with me or ask me any questions about your paper (because of the PSAT). Of course, I will meet with you during 4th block tomorrow or Wednesday if you let me know you need to stay. I have a meeting after school on Wednesday, so I won't be available then.

What did I miss? Please use the blog to help each other and answer any questions that you have. Use this forum instead of suffering in silence. I've spoken with many of my old students who are now in college and the overwhelming majority have already been assigned blog/web assignments!

Remember that tomorrow is twin day!
PS--Looks like donuts have taken the lead...

I am in need of someone elses opinion to help me fix this sentance something is off with it but i cant seem to figure out how to fix it. I need a fresh eye and a smarter brain for this one.

European doctors are big supporters of herbal and nutritional supplements together with traditional treatments such as chemotherapy used on hundreds of patients every year to amplify their progress.

Does anyone know whether or not our interview is double spaced. On our example it does not look like it, but according to MLA, I though we were supposed to.

If you want to look at my old (good) protfolios, they are on the back shelf under the construction paper (on the 3rd shelf), in white binders (that aren't labeled). Look at them for analysis, the graph/chart, or outlines. Anna Orlando's and Carol Brock's are great!

Hi everyone! I hope all went well today! I learned who your sub was... We'll talk about that tomorrow! :)

For tomorrow, make sure you have your typed 4 pages and advisor log. Am I missing anything?

I have to present a little thing to the faculty during the first 30 minutes of class tomorrow, so another English teacher will be covering our class then. Gosh, you all will really be missing me! Ha ha! You will be completing a peer editing exercise while I'm out.

See you tomorrow!

Interview

Mrs. Moon, I have been calling around to see about who I can interview for out Graduation Project. I called Tidal Creek and the person who I talked to was not very helpful, or pleasant for that matter. She told me to call back on tuesday, but I worry that , that is too late. I am searching around for other sources but am having a little trouble as where to start. Any suggestions? I also wanted to ask a question. Over the summer I participated in an internship in Costa Rica and got the opprotunity to meet a lady who live in Virginia who is a nutrionist. If i am still not having luck with interviewing someone in Wilmington, is it at all possible to have an "over the phone" interview? I know that she would be more than willing to talk with me, the distance is the only thing that would get in the way. Please let me know!

Happy World Vegetarian Day!

Here is your riddle for the day:

I can sizzle like bacon; I am made with an egg; I have plenty of backbone, but lack a good leg.
I peel layers like onions, but still remain whole. I can be long, like a flagpole, yet fit in a hole.

What am I?

If you are the first person to tell me the answer tomorrow, you get 5 points on your vocab quiz on Monday.
